Coming Soon: Video Store Action Heroes!
Join Mike, Greg, Mikey, and myself as we join forces to bring you a four-man blogathon of reviews celebrating action/adventure films of the ’70s and ’80s!
The series makes its debut Saturday, August 18th and will continue (whenever the mood strikes us) throughout 2018, and if all goes as planned, into 2019 and beyond. Each blogathon will feature a different action/adventure theme from the drive-in and video rental era, and will offer reviews of films by Mike from Mike’s Take on the Movies, Greg at Destroy All Fanboys, Mikey at Wolfmans Cult Film Club, and myself here at the Monolith.
Our introductory blogathon will have no theme, but instead a wild card of whatever action/adventure film from the ’70s or ’80s we’d like to review first. After that, each successive blogathon will offer a theme hand-picked by one of us four reviewers, spotlighting a particular action star, franchise series, or a specific category of action film, to name just a few possibilities.
So, if you have nothing better to do on the 18th, pay a visit to our four sites and see what action film reviews we have up our sleeves. And for those of you who prefer your films to be of the cheesy variety, I’ll continue to hook up with Lindsey over at The Motion Pictures for our semi-annual look at the lousiest and corniest horror and sci-fi movies of the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s.

Hi Gill! Sorry, but yes, it’s just for us four guys, a 4-person mini-blogathon created because none of them were permitted to join a 2-person mini-blogathon I’d already created with someone else! But I appreciate your interest in taking part in this one; if I start up yet another one, I’ll let you know!

As an Action Hero all I remember is GI Joe. But I do remember going to the Drive In, playground area and big concession area. Let’s see if I remember any of the films for the blogathon.

My guess is you’ll remember one of them, because you were there at the Plaza Twin with Reid and I to see it, back in 1980. Any idea what it was?

Danny, I don’t think any of us would mind becoming internet famous…but two of us live in the US, one in Canada, and one in the UK. Where would our base of operations be? Where would we record the podcasts? And of course, there’s the Video Store Action Heroes merchandise store to think about…
