I’m no longer having ‘Jaws Month’ here at the Monolith, but that doesn’t mean I’m not taking part in my annual ‘Jaws Night’ festivities…where for the 21st consecutive year I’m watching Jaws on the 4th of July. Tonight I’m watching it with my friend Julie, who hasn’t seen the film since it hit theaters in 1975, and trust me, it’s been fun seeing her jump and laugh and gasp at scenes that she doesn’t remember, and are now once again new to her.
And watching the Blu-ray, I’m still spotting things in the foreground and background I’ve never noticed before, such as: who are all those people sitting on chairs in the far background of the scene where the ferry leaves the dock, carrying Brody and Mayor Vaughn? And why are they there?
So for those of you enjoying Jaws tonight, trying your best not to have a panic on your hands on the 4th of July, I hope you’re having as much fun as I am watching my favorite movie of all time. I mean, seriously, what else would you rather be doing?
No sharks in the Penobscot River. Just some giant sturgeons lurking below the barge. Don’t fall over board. Soon to be a new Stephen King novel.

Well, you can add this to next year’s Jaws festivities as a pre-show warm-up: https://vimeo.com/90508000

Yes, classic T & J! But I think it would’ve been more apropos (and entertaining) if they’d both been savagely ripped apart and devoured by a shark.

I had a feeling this was on your dance card once again. And why not when it’s one of two films I always refer to as my absolute favorites.

Do you ever have a ‘Dirty Dozen Night’ during the year?

I usually watch it once a year and have been known to pick it for Father’s Day but not every year on that date.

Such an incredible movie. I had the joy of showing it to my son for the first time a few months ago and we’ve have talked about it numerous times since. My daughter is next but I’ll probably wait another year.

I love hearing stories of Jaws fans introducing the film to others…if you and your son are still talking about it, is it safe to assume he liked it?
